About Codazen

Codazen is a technology consultancy that helps organizations move faster without losing control.

We design and engineer the platforms, data systems, and digital products that enable leaders to make better decisions and turn strategic intent into measurable outcomes. Our work spans enterprise architecture, data and AI, product development, and customer experience—often within complex environments where clarity, judgment, and execution matter most.

We believe technology should make complex systems more coherent, useful, and human. That requires more than technical fluency. It requires intellectual curiosity, disciplined engineering, honest communication, and a deep respect for the people who depend on what we build.

Our clients trust us to solve consequential problems, challenge assumptions, and remain accountable beyond delivery. We are ambitious about the impact of our work, thoughtful about how we achieve it, and committed to continually improving our craft.

If you are motivated by meaningful technical challenges, close collaboration with clients, and the opportunity to shape both strategy and execution, we would like to meet you.

Summary

Codazen is looking for a Senior SDET to help improve the quality and reliability of our marketing engineering work. You will work closely with engineers who build and deliver email campaigns and related marketing experiences, reviewing requirements, code, data, and implementations to identify defects, gaps, and edge cases before they reach production. This role goes beyond visual or manual QA. You should be comfortable reading code, understanding what an engineer was trying to accomplish, comparing the implementation against requirements, validating the data that drives campaign functionality and reporting, and asking questions when something does not look right.
You will perform both white-box and black-box testing across application code, campaign functionality, data flows, tracking, and reporting. You will help validate that data is accurately captured, transformed, and represented across systems, diagnose discrepancies, and identify root causes when issues occur. Over time, you will identify recurring quality issues and introduce automated tests, data validation checks, monitoring, processes, and other safeguards that prevent defects and improve quality without unnecessarily slowing down delivery.

Role Responsibilities

  • Review production code for correctness, edge cases, logic errors, and unintended behavior.
  • Perform both white-box and black-box testing.
  • Translate business and product requirements into test scenarios while identifying missing or ambiguous requirements.
  • Develop test plans, regression tests, pre-launch validation procedures, and repeatable QA checklists.
  • Debug complex issues, identify root causes, and anticipate potential failure points.
  • Validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and freshness across systems and workflows.
  • Test end-to-end data flows, including data capture, ingestion, transformations, mappings, segmentation, aggregation, and reporting outputs.
  • Validate data-driven functionality, including campaign logic, personalization, conditional content, tracking, events, and conversion behavior.
  • Investigate and reconcile discrepancies between systems, data sources, and reporting outputs.
  • Validate ETL and data-pipeline logic, metric definitions, filters, aggregations, dashboards, and reports.
  • Design and implement automated tests and data-quality checks, including schema, volume, freshness, duplicate, reconciliation, and anomaly checks.
  • Integrate automated quality checks into CI/CD and development workflows.
  • Document testing standards, data definitions, known issues, and repeatable QA processes.
  • Clearly communicate technical and data-quality issues, including their potential business impact.
  • Question assumptions, clarify requirements, and raise concerns before they become production issues.
  • This is a Hybrid, 3 day a week onsite role based out of our office in Irvine, Ca. (Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays).
  • This is a 1099 independent contractor position with an initial contract term of three to six months and the potential for extension based on company needs.

Qualifications

  • Strong software-development fundamentals with the ability to read, understand, and evaluate production code.
  • Experience with white-box and black-box testing methodologies.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and experience querying data to investigate issues and validate results.
  • Experience testing complex, data-driven systems and end-to-end data workflows.
  • Experience designing and implementing automated tests and data-quality checks.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated quality-check integration.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining focus on the intended business outcome.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with technical and nontechnical stakeholders to clarify requirements and explain quality risks.

Plus

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or email-development technologies.
  • Experience with marketing technology, campaign tracking, analytics platforms, tag management, or high-volume digital experiences.
Full compensation packages are based on candidate experience and certifications.
